Accountability
The Managing Director, Renewables, is accountable for building and scaling Blue Orb’s renewable energy investment platform globally. The role will develop strategic relationships with renewable energy developers, investors, financial institutions, and industry stakeholders; identify and execute investment opportunities; lead renewable energy transactions from origination through exit; and build a high-performing team capable of delivering long-term value creation.
Duties /Responsibilities
Investment Strategy
- Develop and execute renewable energy investment strategies aligned with Blue Orb’s growth objectives.
- Identify, evaluate, and pursue investment opportunities across global renewable energy markets.
- Support business expansion into new geographies and renewable energy sectors.
- Contribute to the development of investment theses and market strategies for renewable energy assets.
Leadership and Management
- Build, lead, and scale a high-performing renewable energy investment platform and team.
- Mentor, coach, and develop investment and finance professionals while fostering collaboration across technical, commercial, and operational teams.
- Establish scalable processes, procedures, governance frameworks, and operating disciplines to support business growth.
- Drive a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, knowledge sharing, and leadership development.
Stakeholder Relationships
- Develop and maintain strategic relationships with renewable energy developers, commercial banks, infrastructure investors, private equity firms, tax equity providers, financial institutions, and government agencies.
- Represent Blue Orb with investors, lenders, project sponsors, and strategic partners globally.
- Build long-term relationships that support project origination, execution, financing, and portfolio growth.
Negotiations and Deal Execution
- Lead complex renewable energy transactions from origination through financial close, construction, commercial operation date (COD), and exit.
- Negotiate commercial, financing, acquisition, partnership, and investment agreements.
- Manage transaction execution across multiple jurisdictions and stakeholders.
Financial Analysis and Due Diligence
- Structure and evaluate debt and equity financing solutions for renewable energy projects.
- Lead and oversee financial analysis, investment evaluation, valuation modelling, and due diligence processes for renewable energy investments.
- Direct project financing activities, investment memoranda preparation, and investment committee submissions.
- Maintain the ability to independently build and review project finance models where required.
Portfolio Management
- Monitor and optimise the performance of renewable energy investments throughout their lifecycle.
- Identify opportunities for value creation, operational improvement, portfolio expansion, refinancing, and exits.
- Support portfolio companies and project sponsors in achieving commercial and operational objectives.
Industry Knowledge
- Maintain deep knowledge of renewable energy markets, project finance trends, policy developments, ESG considerations, and emerging technologies.
- Monitor developments in solar energy, battery energy storage systems (BESS), hybrid energy solutions, and other renewable energy technologies.
- Apply market intelligence to inform investment decisions and strategic planning.
- Drive sustainable growth through deep expertise in renewable energy project development, financing, acquisition, and asset management.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced business degree (e.g. MBA) preferred.
- Minimum of 10 – 15 years of experience in renewable energy investment, project finance, infrastructure investing, investment banking, private equity, asset management, or related sectors.
- Demonstrable experience in renewable project development, investment banking, capital markets, private equity in international and domestic markets.
- Proven experience with private equity investment processes, including deal sourcing, comprehensive due diligence, and investment execution, specifically within renewable energy project portfolios.
Required Skills and Abilities
- Strong investment banking and project finance background.
- Proven track record of originating, structuring, financing, acquiring, developing, and/or exiting renewable energy investments.
- Demonstrated accountability for cumulative transaction experience of approximately USD 1 billion+ and/or 5GW+ of renewable energy projects over the course of a career.
- Extensive experience with solar energy investments and project development.
- Experience with Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and hybrid renewable energy projects is strongly preferred.
- Prior experience of building, scaling, or leading a startup, growth-stage business, renewable energy platform, or investment business is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated experience leading teams and developing talent.
- Ability to travel locally and internationally to various countries, sometimes for extended periods.
- Excellent written and verbal communication in English (fluency in Spanish & Portuguese are nice to have, but not mandatory).

- Must have a dedicated work computer with minimum Windows 10 or MacOS 13 and 8 gigabytes of RAM.
