About this Role

As an Investment Associate at the Soros Economic Development Fund (SEDF), the impact investment arm of Open Society Foundations, you will be instrumental in supporting the development of vibrant, sustainable democracies. SEDF focuses on deploying capital to support a wide range of socio-economic and climate impacts globally. The role requires flexibility, drive, and a passion for advancing impact through private capital. Investment Associates are expected to be generalists with the ability to manage a variety of themes and regions. Expertise in a specific area, while beneficial, is not mandatory.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development of investment themes and strategies.
  • Lead landscaping and benchmarking exercises to identify investment opportunities.
  • Ensure proper cataloging of all deals and details in the SEDF database.
  • Draft investment recommendations and memos.
  • Contribute to due diligence, supporting Investment Principals and the Managing Director.
  • Develop financial models and conduct financial analysis.
  • Conduct risk analysis and impact/ESG analysis.
  • Forge strategic partnerships for SEDF at portfolio and individual deal levels.
  • Oversee creative strategies to add value to SEDF investees.
  • Refine SEDF’s investment processes and systems, including reporting and database management.

Requirements

  • Significant experience in private-sector banking or investment.
  • Exposure to Emerging Markets/Global South is desirable.
  • Proven track record in leading and closing due diligence for direct equity and debt investments.
  • Strong financial modeling, risk, and financial analysis skills.
  • Commitment to Open Society’s core values of respect, inclusivity, and integrity.
  • Excellent command of English; knowledge of other languages is an asset.
